Google Could Replace Nexus Devices with Android Silver Range, Says Reports

If you are a keen technology watcher, you will be no stanger to the amount of leaks and speculations that have been revolving around Google's next Nexus device. Unsurprisingly enough, there's more to follow up on it today.
According to reports doing rounds on the web, Google could be planning on ceasing the Nexus range of devices altogether and could instead launch a new range of high-end devices. Apparently, Google's new range of devices will be called Android Silver.

Quoting a brand new report on the same from The Information, the current business of offering Nexus-branded handsets with Google's widespread vision of offering the best Android user experience could very well be scrapped.
Moreover, it will be replaced by a set of high-end Silver phones that will closely resemble the very popular Nexus range of devices.

"The expensive effort involves dumping the four-year-old Google Nexus phone brand in favor of a new program called Silver, under which manufacturers and wireless carriers will effectively be paid to produce and sell high-end devices that closely adhere to Google specifications, according to four people briefed on the project," The Information report states.
"The requirements sharply limit the number of non-Google apps that can be pre-installed on devices, or mandate that phone owners be able to uninstall them."

The Report further says Google will be subsidising the development and marketing expenses for its hardware partners. Apparently, the company is spending about $1 billion to roll out this new plan.
As of now, LG and Motorola are believed to the most likely hardware partners for Google's new range of devices. However, other major players such as Sony, HTC and Samsung are also expected to join Google later.
